Wigan Warriors won the first final in 1998, beating Leeds Rhinos 10-4. The most recent edition, in 2025, drew 68,853, the biggest Grand Final crowd since 2017, as Hull KR beat Wigan Warriors 24-6 to become the first new winner in 21 years. Who has won the Super League Grand Final?

Five clubs have won the Super League Grand Final since it began in 1998: St Helens with nine titles, Leeds Rhinos with eight, Wigan Warriors with seven, Bradford Bulls with three and Hull KR with one, in 2025. When did the Super League Grand Final start, and why at Old Trafford?

The first Super League Grand Final was played on 24 October 1998, when Wigan Warriors beat Leeds Rhinos 10-4 at Old Trafford. Old Trafford has hosted every Grand Final since, apart from 2020, when the game moved to Hull’s stadium, then known as the KCOM Stadium, during the Covid-19 pandemic. A contract signed in 2024 between Rugby League Commercial and Manchester United keeps the final at Old Trafford until 2027.

The choice of a football stadium was deliberate. The final was designed as rugby league's showpiece day, and Old Trafford gives it one of the biggest capacities in English sport, room the fixture has steadily grown into.

What is the biggest recent Grand Final crowd?

The biggest recent Super League Grand Final crowd was 68,853 at Old Trafford in 2025, the highest attendance for a Grand Final since 2017. It was up on the 2024 final, which drew 68,173. Old Trafford is one of the largest stadiums in English sport, with a capacity of around 74,000, so the final still has room to grow.

Two finals in a row above 68,000 put the Grand Final among the best-attended dates on the rugby league calendar.

What happened in the most recent Grand Final?

In the 2025 Super League Grand Final, Hull KR beat Wigan Warriors 24-6 at Old Trafford to win the title for the first time and become the first new name on the trophy in 21 years. The result denied Wigan a third straight Grand Final win and made Hull KR the reigning Super League champions going into 2026.
