What Time Does a Big Fight Night Start?

A big British fight night runs a lot longer than most people expect. Doors at a UK stadium usually open around 17:30, the undercard fills the next four to five hours, and the two headline fighters do not walk to the ring until somewhere between roughly 21:50 and 22:50. That is five to five and a half hours inside the building for anyone who arrives when the gates open, with the fight everybody came for right at the end of it.

What time does the main event start at a UK fight night?

At a UK stadium fight night, doors usually open around 17:30 and the main event ring walk falls between roughly 21:50 and 22:50. Two nights show it in practice. Both of those ring walks land in the late evening, not at midnight. The length of the card in front of them is why: four to five hours of boxing runs first. London's biggest stadiums typically operate an 11pm curfew, and a 22:50 first bell in 2022 shows how late a big card can still get under way.

How long does a fight night last?

About five to five and a half hours inside the building, for a guest who arrives when doors open. Boxing starts shortly after that, and four to five hours of undercard runs before the headline ring walk. That is far longer than a football match or a concert, and unlike either of those, the main draw is the last thing on the bill.

What is the running order at a big fight night?

The card climbs. The shortest and least experienced bouts open the evening and the main event closes it, so a guest who arrives late misses a four-round opener rather than the fight they came for. The published order for Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois in London on 19 July 2025 ran six bouts, from a four-round professional debut up to the main event.

Are ring-walk times fixed?

No. A published ring-walk time is an estimate, and it moves with the undercard. A run of early stoppages pulls the main event forward, and a card of twelve-round fights that go the distance pushes it back. Treat any time you are given as the earliest the main event could realistically start. Work the end of the night back from the venue curfew, not from the estimate.

Why is a 2am start being discussed for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury?

A 2am ring walk would put the main event into United States prime time. The idea comes from a scheduling clash: London's biggest stadiums typically operate an 11pm curfew, and Netflix and Turki Alalshikh have pushed for a main event starting no earlier than 2am UK time, which is what has pushed reporting towards New York. No start time has been announced.

A 2am UK ring walk is 9pm on the US East Coast and 6pm on the West Coast, which is the commercial reason the idea is in circulation at all. Extending a stadium curfew is not a promoter's decision: it sits with the licensing authorities and the venue's own safety advisers. No venue has been announced. When is the undercard announced?

When a fight is first announced, the main event is normally the only bout on the card. Supporting bouts are added one at a time across the weeks between the on-sale and fight night, and the running order for the evening is published the day before, alongside the official weigh-in results. No undercard has been announced for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury as of 18 August 2026.

What happens during fight week?

Fight week runs Monday to Saturday, with the fight on the Saturday night. The pattern rarely varies: a public or media workout midweek, a final press conference on the Thursday, and the weigh-in on the Friday afternoon. The running order for the following night comes out at that weigh-in, so guests travelling on the Friday can attend the weigh-in and guests travelling on the Saturday cannot.
