Young Thug

Young Thug, the Atlanta rapper born Jeffery Lamar Williams, built one of hip-hop's most distinctive catalogues before founding his own label, YSL Records (Young Stoner Life Records, not to be confused with the fashion house Yves Saint Laurent). Born on 16 August 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in the city's Jonesboro South housing projects, he came up through Atlanta's mixtape scene in the early 2010s and signed to Gucci Mane's 1017 Brick Squad Records in 2013, a deal that placed him at the centre of Atlanta's next generation of trap artists.

His early mixtapes established the vocal style he remains best known for: a melodic, elastic delivery that stretches and warps words in ways few of his peers attempted at the time. That style went on to influence a generation of hip-hop and trap artists, and it carried him from mixtape circles to the top of the Billboard charts. His 2019 album So Much Fun became his first number one on the Billboard 200, debuting with around 131,000 equivalent album units and 167.9 million on-demand audio streams in its opening week, a breakthrough that confirmed him as a headline act in his own right rather than a guest feature.

In 2025, Young Thug returned with UY SCUTI, released through YSL, Atlantic and 300 on 26 September (a "Supernova edition" added seven further tracks the following week). The album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 with roughly 52,000 first-week units, becoming his ninth top-ten entry on that chart and continuing a run of consistency few of his Atlanta contemporaries can match.

Alongside his own recording career, Young Thug founded YSL (Young Stoner Life) Records, the Atlanta label that has become a launchpad for a wider roster of artists. He is a Grammy Award winner, picking up the honour as a songwriter on Childish Gambino's "This Is America", named Song of the Year at the 2019 Grammy Awards, alongside further Grammy nominations across his career. Young Thug's touring history includes several UK dates. He first performed in London in August 2015, then returned in 2017 as a support act on Drake's Boy Meets World arena tour, which took in London, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Birmingham as well as Dublin. Young Thug's collaborators over the years include fellow Atlanta artist Gunna, a fellow YSL Records artist, and Travis Scott, with whom he has worked on and off since the mid-2010s. Mariah the Scientist features on two UY SCUTI tracks but is not part of the touring line-up.

Has Young Thug performed live since 2019?

Yes. Young Thug returned to major stages in 2025, appearing at Summer Smash in Chicago that June and bringing out fellow Atlanta artist Travis Scott during the set. He is also billed for Coachella in 2026. Those live returns fed directly into 2026's announcement of The New Generation Tour, his first full headline run since 2019.
