James Blunt's new album is Airplane Mode, his eighth studio album, and its release date is Friday 6 November 2026 on Atlantic Records. The standard edition has 12 tracks, recorded mostly at Pig Music Studios in Banbury with his long-standing live band. The UK leg of the Airplane Mode Tour then runs from Leeds on 26 March 2027 to Brighton on 8 April 2027. Below are the full standard-edition running order and his seven earlier studio albums with their UK chart peaks.

When is Airplane Mode released?

Airplane Mode's release date is Friday 6 November 2026, on Atlantic Records. James Blunt announced it on 3 September 2026, the same day as the Airplane Mode Tour for 2027. As of 10 October 2026 it had no chart position, as it had not yet been released.

Is Airplane Mode his eighth album?

Yes. Airplane Mode is James Blunt's eighth studio album: he released seven before it, starting with Back to Bedlam in 2004. The count leaves out his 2021 compilation, The Stars Beneath My Feet, which is not a studio album. All seven earlier studio albums reached the UK Top 10, and two of them went to No.1.

UK peaks are from the Official Albums Chart. Before Airplane Mode, and counting the 2021 compilation as well, James Blunt had eight Top 10 albums. Back to Bedlam came out in October 2004 and reached No.1 in 2005: it spent 10 weeks there and was No.1 on the Official Charts year-end albums chart for 2005. His life before music, including his service as a British Army captain, is on the James Blunt artist page.

Where was Airplane Mode recorded?

James Blunt recorded most of Airplane Mode at Pig Music Studios in Banbury. He made it with his long-standing live band, the musicians who play with him on stage. It is his first studio album since Who We Used to Be in 2023.

When he announced the album, he said he had lost his way at some point and found it again in a studio in Banbury.

Will he play the new album on the 2027 tour?

The Airplane Mode Tour, James Blunt's tour for the album, opens in Luxembourg on 17 February 2027. As of 10 October 2026 no setlist for the 2027 shows is confirmed, so how many Airplane Mode songs he plays is not yet known.

His February 2025 UK arena shows marked an older record instead: on the Back to Bedlam 20th Anniversary Tour, he played his 2004 debut in full and in order, followed by later hits.

The UK leg runs from 26 March to 8 April 2027. Every UK date, and what each venue offers in premium seating and hospitality, is on our James Blunt Airplane Mode Tour 2027 page.
