What is the Summer Funk '27 tour?

Summer Funk '27 is Simply Red's summer 2027 tour and their first since the 40th anniversary tour of 2025. It opens at the MEO Arena in Lisbon on 16 June 2027 and plays 27 European shows up to 30 July, then 11 UK shows from Chester Racecourse on Saturday 7 August to the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, on Sunday 22 August, the last night of the whole tour.

Heather Small, Soul II Soul and Lisa Stansfield rotate as support across the UK dates. The touring band is Mick Hucknall with Ian Kirkham, Kenji Suzuki, Kevin Robinson, Roman Roth, Gary Sanctuary and Orefo Orakwue.

How do the two racecourse dates differ?

Chester Racecourse on Saturday 7 August 2027 is a standalone concert with no race meeting that day, and Heather Small and Soul II Soul are on the bill. Newmarket Racecourse on Saturday 21 August is a Newmarket Nights raceday on the July Course: racing comes first, then Simply Red, and the course says the ticket covers both, with no concert-only ticket.

Newmarket's event page gives gates at 11.33am, the first race at 1.33pm, the last race at 5.35pm and the concert from about 6pm to 8.45pm, all subject to change. It falls the night before the tour ends in Taunton.

About Simply Red Tour 2027 Hospitality

Eleven shows in sixteen days, and every one of them outdoors. Simply Red's Summer Funk '27 UK run starts at Chester Racecourse on Saturday 7 August 2027 and ends in Taunton on Sunday 22 August, taking in two racecourses, a county cricket ground, three nights at The Piece Hall and five other open-air sites on the way.

Where are Simply Red playing in 2027?

Simply Red play 11 UK shows at 9 venues between Saturday 7 and Sunday 22 August 2027. The Piece Hall in Halifax hosts three of them, on 9, 10 and 11 August, after adding a second and then a third night. Gunnersbury Park is the only London date, Singleton Park in Swansea the only Welsh one, and Taunton, the band's only South West show of 2027, closes the whole tour.

  • Saturday 7 August 2027: Chester Racecourse
  • Monday 9 August 2027: The Piece Hall, Halifax
  • Tuesday 10 August 2027: The Piece Hall, Halifax (second night)
  • Wednesday 11 August 2027: The Piece Hall, Halifax (third night)
  • Friday 13 August 2027: Gunnersbury Park, London
  • Saturday 14 August 2027: Dreamland Margate, Scenic Stage

  • Saturday 21 August 2027: Newmarket Racecourse, July Course
  • Sunday 22 August 2027: Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton (Somerset Sounds)

Gunnersbury Park is the band's first ever show there, and its promoter lists it as sold out, with a waiting list. Dreamland Margate has sold out too. Newmarket is part of the course's Newmarket Nights series, with racing first and Simply Red after. Every date with its support act and notes is in the table in Are Simply Red touring in 2027?

Which venues sell Simply Red hospitality in 2027?

Four venues sell their own premium options for their Simply Red dates: Chester Racecourse, The Piece Hall in Halifax, Newmarket Racecourse and the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. Scarborough Open Air Theatre says its Rooftop VIP Bar will be available on summer 2027 shows. Colchester's VIP option has sold out, and the Gunnersbury Park and Dreamland Margate shows have sold out altogether.

Chester Racecourse, Saturday 7 August 2027

Every Chester Racecourse hospitality tier for Simply Red includes Golden Circle access, so hospitality guests see the concert, while general admission is standing only.

  • Bronze: standing in the Golden Circle, with a one-course street-food-style plated menu, a welcome drink and a private bar.
  • Silver: a pre-allocated seat in the Golden Circle, a two-course plated menu, a private bar and half a bottle of wine or two bottles of beer (or soft drinks).
  • Gold: a pre-allocated seat in the Golden Circle, a three-course menu, a concierge service and a glass of Laurent-Perrier rosé on arrival.

The Piece Hall, Halifax, 9 to 11 August 2027

The Piece Hall lists two premium options on all three Simply Red nights. The Balcony brings fast-track entry, covered balcony areas with upper-level viewing, a private balcony bar and separate toilets. Live at Lounge is a VIP area with a private bar and toilets, balcony views of the stage, fast-track entry, a welcome drink, a souvenir lanyard and a DJ until late after the show. Soul II Soul support each night, doors open at 6pm and the evening finishes by about 10.30pm. The Piece Hall says all three shows are BSL interpreted.

Newmarket Racecourse, Saturday 21 August 2027

Newmarket's stage view is the Prime Viewing Platform, a raised area about 40 metres from the stage and directly opposite it. The stage sits in the Premier Enclosure between Stands 2 and 3. From the Champions Lawn the view is limited, with a large screen opposite. The course says Trackside Pavilion guests can enjoy "one of our popular music nights" from their pavilion's "own exclusive decking area". The concert area itself is standing, with no reserved seating.

Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, Sunday 22 August 2027

The last night of the tour is the first Somerset Sounds, a new one-day festival run by Somerset County Cricket Club with promoter Full Fat 360. Three of its hospitality packages are sold as stage-view: the Elite Stage View private boxes, 1875 Elite and the Thatchers Terrace. The Long Room and Ian Botham Pavilion boxes carry a restricted-view warning, and the other packages pair pre-show hospitality with standing on the pitch. In September 2026 the festival listed its hospitality packages as on sale.

Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Tuesday 17 August 2027

Scarborough Open Air Theatre sells seated and standing tickets for the Simply Red night. Its Rooftop VIP Bar, launched in summer 2026 for groups of up to 40, has a raised viewing area with overhead cover, a private bar, food brought from the onsite vendors and private toilets. The venue says the Rooftop will be available on summer 2027 shows, but has not yet named it for Simply Red's night.

Castle Park, Colchester, Wednesday 18 August 2027

Colchester's VIP option for the Simply Red show has sold out, and there is no golden circle at this event. General admission is standing, with no re-entry.

Alcohol at every one of these venues is served to over-18s only, and ID may be requested.

Who supports Simply Red on each date?

Three acts share the support slots on the UK leg: Soul II Soul, Heather Small and Lisa Stansfield. Soul II Soul are on most of the dates, including all three Piece Hall nights, and Heather Small plays five of the 11. Lisa Stansfield joins Heather Small at Swansea and is reported for London. Newmarket has no support act announced, and Somerset County Cricket Club says more acts will be announced for Taunton.

  • Chester, 7 August: Heather Small and Soul II Soul
  • Halifax, 9, 10 and 11 August: Soul II Soul
  • London, 13 August: Lisa Stansfield as special guest, with Soul II Soul also named, both according to press reports (the promoter lists no support)
  • Margate, 14 August: Heather Small
  • Scarborough, 17 August: Soul II Soul, according to press reports (the venue page names no support)
  • Colchester, 18 August: Heather Small and Soul II Soul
  • Swansea, 20 August: Lisa Stansfield and Heather Small
  • Newmarket, 21 August: no support act announced yet
  • Taunton, 22 August: Soul II Soul and Heather Small, with more acts to be announced

Which date suits a corporate group?

The best Simply Red 2027 date for a corporate group depends on how it wants to watch. For a seated group, Chester Racecourse's Silver and Gold packages put guests in pre-allocated Golden Circle seating with the concert in view. Newmarket is the only raceday on the tour, with racing before the band. Somerset Sounds in Taunton sells three stage-view packages with hospitality, and The Piece Hall lists the Balcony and Live at Lounge on all three of its nights.

The Piece Hall's three nights fall on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. A midweek night in August is easier to fill with clients than a weekend when many of them are away, which makes Halifax a practical choice for a client list. For a London client list, the only date in the capital, Gunnersbury Park on Friday 13 August 2027, has sold out.

The band's history and records are on the Simply Red artist page, and the singer's own story is on the Mick Hucknall page.

Where can you sit down at a Simply Red 2027 show?

Chester Racecourse and Scarborough Open Air Theatre both list seating for their Simply Red shows. At Chester, the Silver and Gold hospitality packages include pre-allocated seats in the Golden Circle, while Bronze and general admission are standing, and personal chairs and gazebos are not permitted. Scarborough sells seated as well as standing tickets for Tuesday 17 August 2027.

  • Newmarket: the concert area is standing, with no reserved seating.
  • Taunton: Somerset Sounds is a standing event on the pitch, and seats in the stands are for resting, with views from them that may be limited or obstructed.
  • Colchester: there are no designated seated areas, including in the VIP Premium area.

What happens if it rains at an outdoor Simply Red show?

At four venues the show goes on in the rain. The Piece Hall, Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Castle Park in Colchester and Singleton Park in Swansea all say their concerts stop or are cancelled only if conditions become unsafe, and none of the four allows umbrellas. For cover, The Piece Hall's Balcony tickets use covered balcony areas, and Scarborough's Rooftop VIP Bar, if it is offered that night, has overhead cover.

  • Newmarket: umbrellas are not permitted during the concert, and most areas, including stage viewing, are open to the elements.
  • Taunton: Somerset Sounds bans umbrellas, gazebos, windbreakers and tents, and advises hooded waterproof clothing.
  • Chester, London and Margate: none of the three had published a rain policy for these shows by September 2026.

What are the age rules at each Simply Red 2027 venue?

Age rules differ from venue to venue on the Summer Funk '27 tour, from Dreamland Margate's default minimum age of 2 to Gunnersbury Park's 14+. Newmarket's live music FAQ recommends that its music nights are not suitable for under-18s, though they can still attend with an adult, and Chester Racecourse has published no age rule for the Simply Red concert.

  • Gunnersbury Park, London: 14+, and under-18s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
  • The Piece Hall, Halifax: under-14s must be accompanied by an adult, and under-6s are not admitted, according to the venue's event page.
  • Castle Park, Colchester: 6+, with ages 6 to 17 accompanied by an adult over 21, one adult per three under-18s.
  • Newmarket Racecourse: under-18s attend at the booking party's discretion, with a valid full-price ticket and one adult aged 21 or over per three under-18s. Children aged 15 and under must stay with an adult, while 16 and 17 year olds may move around on their own.
  • Dreamland Margate: the venue's default minimum age of 2 applies to every event unless otherwise stated.
