Goodwood Motor Circuit

Goodwood Motor Circuit, also known as Goodwood Circuit, is a historic track of about 2.4 miles on the Goodwood Estate near Chichester, West Sussex, laid out on the perimeter of a wartime airfield that is now Goodwood Aerodrome. It hosts the Goodwood Revival each September and the Members' Meeting each spring, while the Festival of Speed runs separately at Goodwood House. With the aerodrome inside the track, guests can fly in as well as come by road or rail.

Which events take place at Goodwood Motor Circuit?

Goodwood Motor Circuit hosts two of Goodwood's three motorsport events. The Goodwood Revival, each September, races cars and motorcycles from the circuit's original 1948 to 1966 era, with some pre-war classes too. The Members' Meeting, each spring, is open only to Members and Fellows of the Goodwood Road Racing Club (GRRC) and also runs machinery from after 1966.

• 84th Members' Meeting: Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 April 2027, racing from 09:00 on both days.
• Through the year: a monthly Breakfast Club motoring show, plus track days, driving experiences and track hire.

The Festival of Speed does not use the circuit: the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2027 runs its 1.16-mile hillclimb in the grounds of Goodwood House on 15 to 18 July 2027. Glorious Goodwood is a horse racing meeting, held at Goodwood Racecourse.

How do you get to Goodwood Motor Circuit?

For the Revival, you can take the train to Chichester, the nearest station to Goodwood Motor Circuit, and finish on Goodwood's shuttle bus. You can also drive to grass car parks on the site, or fly in to Goodwood Aerodrome, which the track surrounds. For sat nav, Goodwood gives the postcode PO18 0PH.

By train

Goodwood puts the rail journey from London at about 1 hour 30 minutes. Trains run direct from London Victoria; from London Waterloo you change at Havant, and from London Bridge at Brighton. Chichester station is run by Southern and is step-free to every platform. Goodwood's Revival shuttle bus covers the last leg to the circuit, and there is a charge for it.

By car

The Revival car parks are grass fields on the site, free under Goodwood's current guidance and open from 07:00 each day. Goodwood warns that the grass may not suit low-slung cars, and its travel and accessibility pages direct blue-badge holders to Car Park D. Overnight parking and camping are not allowed in the car parks; the separate Revival campsites open at 09:00 on the Wednesday of event week, and the campsite office is staffed until midday on the Monday.

By air

Goodwood's Revival guidance says guests can land at Goodwood Aerodrome by helicopter, or in a fixed-wing aircraft up to 12 metres in length.

Is Goodwood Motor Circuit accessible?

Goodwood provides accessible parking, raised viewing platforms and accessible toilets at Goodwood Motor Circuit for the Revival, but much of the site is grass and gravel, with some uneven and steep ground to plan for. Goodwood lays temporary roadways during the event to ease movement.

• Blue-badge parking, with a free courtesy shuttle for disabled guests from the car park to the entrance.
• Mobility scooters and wheelchairs for hire on site; Goodwood says pre-booking is essential.
• Five raised accessible viewing platforms, four of them covered. They cannot be reserved, are subject to capacity, and each guest may bring one companion.
• Period vehicles to help guests with reduced mobility get around, though Goodwood says not every vehicle suits every need.
• Accessible toilets across the site, and a Changing Places facility with a hoist and an adult-sized bench.
• Complimentary Essential Companion tickets for eligible disabled guests who cannot attend without support, applied for in advance through Goodwood.
• Assistance dogs with Goodwood's prior consent, through its request form; pet dogs are not allowed at motorsport events.
• Staff trained to recognise the Sunflower lanyard for hidden disabilities, and live captions on site through a QR code.

Goodwood publishes no step-free, lift or seating details for any of its six Revival hospitality venues, so access needs are worth settling before you choose a venue.

Where does Revival hospitality sit around the circuit?

On Goodwood's current listing, The Officers' Club, Commanding Officers' Table and The Goodwood Mess all overlook the start straight at Goodwood Motor Circuit, and Salvadori Restaurant is beside the chicane. The Village Hall sits at Woodcote Corner and has offered a private grandstand there, and The Kennels Dining Room, at Goodwood's members' clubhouse, has offered shuttles to the circuit and roving grandstand access.

A short history of Goodwood Motor Circuit

• 2026: the 83rd Members' Meeting ran on 18 to 19 April and the Revival on 18 to 20 September, with Dunlop as the Revival's first presenting partner; Goodwood says Dunlop was among the circuit's original sponsors in 1948.
• 2014: Goodwood revived the Members' Meeting in response to demand from GRRC Members.
• 1998: the present Duke of Richmond, then Earl of March, founded the GRRC and brought racing back with the first Goodwood Revival, 50 years after the circuit opened.
• 1966: the circuit closed to competitive racing.
• 1965: the Formula 1 lap record of 1m 20.4s was set, and Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart share it.
• 1950 to 1964: the Glover Trophy was awarded here from 1950 to 1963, in its later years as a non-championship Formula 1 race, and the RAC Tourist Trophy ran here from 1958 to 1964. The 2026 Revival ran races under both names.
• 1952: a chicane was added to the lap.
• 1948: the 9th Duke of Richmond, known as Freddie March, opened the circuit after Squadron Leader Tony Gaze suggested the airfield's perimeter road as a track.
• 1940 to 1946: the site was RAF Westhampnett, a Battle of Britain station and satellite of RAF Tangmere.
