Leeds hosts the Grand Départ of the 2027 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, with stage one starting on The Headrow in the city centre on Friday 30 July 2027 and running 87.5km to a finish on Deansgate in Manchester. It is the sixth edition of the race and its first on British roads. Leeds also led the 2014 men's Grand Départ, which makes it the only British city to have hosted the start of both races.
Why Leeds hosts Grand Départs
The city has done this before and had the result measured. The official evaluation of the 2014 Grand Départ, written by eventIMPACTS and led by Leeds City Council alongside UK Sport, Welcome to Yorkshire, Transport for London and TdFHUB2014 Ltd, recorded around £102 million of economic impact for Yorkshire and more than £128 million across all host areas. That evaluation is the reason 2014 is the reference point every subsequent British bid has been measured against.
The Headrow start
The Headrow runs through the middle of Leeds past the Town Hall and the art gallery, which puts the start line in the civic heart of the city rather than on a ring road. For a Grand Départ that matters: the morning is given over to team presentation and sign-on, and a central start means the crowd is standing in the city rather than beside it.
Getting there
Leeds station sits a short walk south of The Headrow and is the main arrival point. The city centre is walkable end to end, which is the practical way to move around on a morning when a race route runs through the middle of it. At the most recent check, on 30 July 2026, Leeds City Council had published no road closures for 30 July 2027.
What watching costs
Standing at the roadside is free and requires no ticket, which is true of every public-road stage on the 2027 route. Channel 5 carries the stage live and free-to-air under the three-year agreement with TNT Sports announced on 17 June 2026.
