OVO Hydro hospitality centres on the executive suite, a private room for up to 16 guests with private balcony seating, a dedicated host for the evening and complimentary hospitality parking. The venue lets suites on an annual lease and also releases them for selected individual events, so a single concert night is a real corporate booking rather than a season-long commitment. Alongside the suites it sells Hydro Club membership and two named premium seating products, The Terrace and The Nest.

OVO Hydro, Glasgow is an arena on the Scottish Event Campus beside the River Clyde, opened in September 2013 to a Foster + Partners design, and reached in about three minutes by train from Glasgow Central. Two of its rules matter more to a host than almost anything else here, and both are particular to this building. You can leave and come back: the venue scans tickets out and back in at the smoking shelters. And an oversized bag goes to the cloakroom for a charge set by the venue rather than back to the car. The venue says it is consistently ranked by Pollstar among the top ten arenas in the world, and its own record includes the MTV Europe Music Awards, the Ryder Cup Gala Concert, BBC Sports Personality of the Year and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The film-score end of that programme is where the arena behaves least like an arena. Tickets for that night carry the venue's own condition that all under-14s are accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, with a limit of six tickets per person, so settle that before the group list is drawn up. How do you get to OVO Hydro, and how do you get home again?

OVO Hydro has its own dedicated railway station, Exhibition Centre, about three minutes from Glasgow Central. Six trains an hour run from Platform 17 on the low level, roughly every ten minutes. A lift takes you from the platform to street level and a covered walkway runs from the station to the campus, which matters in Glasgow in October.

Drivers use the multi-storey car park at 10 Stobcross Road, G3 8GS, operated by Glasgow City Council and open 24 hours, with payment before exit. The height limit is 2 metres. Blue badge bays sit across levels 0 to 4 with lift access, and the walk from the multi-storey to the south entrance is 128 metres. Accessible parking to the east entrance is 50 metres. Individual bays cannot be reserved.

By road, leave the M8 at junction 19 onto the westbound Clydeside Expressway and follow the signs for SEC East. The Glasgow Subway connects from fifteen locations, with St Enoch a few minutes from Central Station for a transfer, and bus routes including the X19, the 77 and the 100 Riversider stop close to the campus.

Departures need one piece of planning. The venue does not publish a last train time and runs no event-night shuttle, and it says finish times are not typically confirmed in advance. So plan the journey home against the rail operator's timetable for that night rather than against an advertised end time.

What are the bag, re-admission and standing rules at OVO Hydro?

Small bags such as handbags and small carrier bags are allowed into OVO Hydro. Anything A3 or larger, which the venue defines as 30cm by 42cm, is not, and nor are suitcases, large handbags or rucksacks. Oversized bags go to the cloakroom for a charge. Re-admission is possible: guests using the smoking shelters have their ticket scanned out and scanned back in.

Selfie sticks, professional cameras with detachable lenses, glass containers and cans are prohibited. Signs and banners must be under A3 and carry no poles. Small non-professional cameras and phone cameras are usually fine unless the promoter says otherwise. Outside food and drink is generally not permitted, and free tap water is available on request at every food and drink unit.

Pass two arrival rules on to guests. Latecomers are welcome up to 30 minutes before the end of a show, though individual promoters can tighten that. And standing at seats runs on a majority-rules policy: on a seated orchestral night, stewards will ask people to sit if most of the audience is seated, or if standing blocks an accessible sightline.
